Paths for ev­ery­body

The first barrier-free panoramic circular route guarantees a special type of mountain experience also for people with impaired mobility. The path runs from the mountain station over the eastern peak and the western peak back to the mountain station. The route has a total length of 3.4 kilometres.

Four barrier-free railway cars take wheelchair users up to the Schöckl safely. Wheelchairs with an e-motor and mobility aids are available for hire at the mountain station of the Schöckl cable car. Accompanying persons from Lebenshilfe GUV are also on hand to assist people with all kinds of disability (tel. (+43 676 84 52 78 330). All food service outlets on the Schöckl also offer barrier-free access. There are barrier-free toilets in the mountain station and in the “Stubenberghaus”.

In addition to the “paths for everybody”, there is also a playground where barrier-free play elements have been provided to children and adults for whom access to the usual play equipment has not been possible to date due to their physical and mental disabilities. The goal was to establish the Schöckl as an alpine meeting place for people with impaired mobility in the Graz region. Play and motor skills elements for children and adults with impaired mobility were docked onto the existing game elements. The connection was done on the one hand via “paths for everybody” and secondly via the spider’s net climbing frame that already existed; all people playing, irrespective of whether they have unimpaired or impaired mobility, have the opportunity to play/train together at a common location. The integrated play is continued at the children’s play area directly next to the cable car station (mountain); play elements have been integrated into the existing playground.

The playground for everybody offers, among other things:

• a nest swing
• a wheelchair see-saw
• fitness equipment
• hammocks
• a roundabout

The play elements have been equipped with a QR code that leads to an app that shows a precise usage description of the devices and indicates further facilities on the Schöckl and in the surrounding area.
