Blog: Graz Abfall-App in test
Hello, my name is Sebastian Zier, some of you know me from the social media platform Instagram @sebastianzier, and in 2021 I am allowed to report on the topics “public transport and individual mobility” and “infrastructure and energy” in cooperation with Holding Graz. So there will be a few blog posts about the above-mentioned topics over the course of the year and I will try to research the individual areas directly to show you what is really behind the name of Holding Graz. Graz Waste App
Today I would like to introduce an app to you, namely the “Graz Waste App”. If you don’t know exactly when your rubbish collection is coming, then this app is just right for you. After downloading and entering the street where you live, you have the option of registering either anonymously or with an e-mail address. The difference is that if you register with an email address, you will be notified of several appointments at once, and if you register anonymously, you will be notified of each appointment individually. Once inside the app, you are shown when the residual waste and organic waste will be collected.
Another highlight of the app, at least for me, as I often struggle with this, is the waste ABC. What is that, you ask? But for people like me, who often have no idea which waste belongs where, this app shows how to separate the waste correctly. So no more questions like: How do you dispose of energy-saving light bulbs? Where do I dispose of aluminium foil? Or what to do with expired medicines. Here you are shown a list from A to Z of where to dispose of the waste or whether it is free or subject to a charge, and if it is a problem substance, you are also shown where you can take it. So I think it’s really ingenious. No more guessing, searching or collecting in your home, with one look at the app the problem is solved.
Let’s go through the whole thing with the example of green waste. So I select green waste in the list, then it shows me that it is to be disposed of as green waste and whether there is a green waste promotion, like right now. If I now click on this promotion, the app shows me that there is the promotion from 20 March to 18 April 2021, that it is free and when and where I can dispose of my green waste. So I am already a big fan of this app and am convinced that it will make our waste separation a lot easier.
