The days are getting longer again, the sun is shining more and more and the desire to do something is increasing. It’s time to get out again!
I’m probably not the only one who has felt the ceiling fall on my head a time or two in the last few months. So I’m all the more pleased that the start of spring invites us to finally get out into nature again. My favourite places to do this are the city parks. Why such a visit is not just a walk for me, more about that in the following paragraphs.
A bit of normality
You miss taking your boyfriend or girlfriend out to dinner? -How about a picnic at sunset?
The after-work beer with your work colleagues tastes much better on a park bench at a certain distance than over video telephony. Meet up with friends, play spikeball together and soak up the sun. With more than 1,255,000m² (constantly increasing) square metres of space spread over all the parks available to us in the city of Graz, it is also possible to take a step towards normality by complying with the Corona measures.
The beautiful new Augarten Bay, the Hilmteich, the large city park, … there are many to choose from. You can find a small overview here.
By the way, did you know that all parks in the city of Graz are maintained by the Holding?
Sport
In recent years, public “street workout arenas” have been built in many parks. Pull-up bars, wall bars, monkey bars, parallel bars and much more are available for free use. Even if you have no experience in calisthenics (self-weight exercises), you can always find someone who can show you a few simple exercises to do.
Running up the stairs on the Schlossberg, jogging along the Rosenhain, hiking up the Schöckl, there are many ways to pass the time until the gym reopens.
What’s more: Fresh air is doubly good for your health.
The Schöckl is also ideally accessible thanks to the gondola. So you can also take the pram up with you and go for a walk on the plateau.
Springtime delights – not only for two-legged friends
The four-legged friends, who are definitely the winners of the lockdown, do not miss out on a visit to the park either. The Augarten and the ORF Park are particularly recommended. There are large, fenced-in dog runs where you can let off steam without a leash.
My dog is also a big fan of water, so I always like to take him to the Auwiesen. There is a separate 970 square metre dog bathing pond within the dog meadow!
You can read all the info and locations of the dog meadows and zones here.
These are the things I personally love to do in my free time around Graz in spring, but by far not everything you can experience there. The best way to find out what your favourite spring activities are? -Just get out there!
