Changeover for lightweight and metal packaging
Since January 1, 2025, light and metal packaging have also been collected together in the yellow bin/yellow bag in Graz. This joint collection is now possible without any problems thanks to technically well-developed sorting and separation technologies in favor of high-quality separate recycling.
Since January 1, 2025, a deposit has also been placed on single-use plastic drinks bottles and metal drinks cans (0.1-3 l) and a charge of 25 cents per container has been levied, which is refunded after return to stores or vending machines. A prerequisite for the return of the deposit is that the Austrian deposit logo and the barcode are clearly recognizable. The packaging must be empty, uncrushed and the label must be complete and legible.
This frees up collection volume in the yellow bins/yellow bags and this can be filled up with metal packaging without overloading the collection system.
