With around 1,000 partner businesses, the GrazGutschein is the largest municipal voucher system in the German-speaking world. Since 2020, it has been part of Holding Graz’s marketing department and has significantly increased sales, redemptions and the number of partner businesses. Just in time for the start of the Christmas season, the Holding is focusing on the GrazGutschein as an ideal gift in its current sales campaign.
With around 1,000 partner businesses, the possibilities for redeeming the GrazGutschein are greater than anywhere else in Austria. The GrazGutschein, which has successfully established itself as Graz’s currency, is being publicised by Holding Graz in a large-scale campaign with slogans such as ‘Wish list? Done!’, “Shopping without stress” and “Shopping without exchange”.
‘The GrazGutschein is an important instrument for supporting the local economy, especially in the current times. Every single purchase strengthens regional trade and secures valuable jobs. Around 1,000 companies are already part of the large partner network – so with the GrazGutschein there are 1,000 gift options under the Christmas tree,’ says City Councillor for Economic Affairs Günter Riegler.

Strongest season in sales is starting
Christmas is the peak season for voucher sales. The GrazGutschein sales team has therefore been preparing for the Christmas business for weeks. ‘In 2023, we turned over a total of 9.2 million euros with the sale of GrazGutscheine, of which more than 5.1 million euros were sold in November and December alone. This underlines the importance of this season. We are currently above the previous year’s sales level and are well prepared for the Christmas business,’ emphasises Richard Peer, Head of Holding Marketing.
Give the right gift – think about Graz vouchers
The Holding Graz campaign is now drawing attention to the large selection and many redemption options of GrazGutscheine throughout the city. The popular gift voucher can be redeemed for everyday products in addition to numerous retail, catering and service businesses. For example, GrazGutscheine can be used to pay the electricity bill at Energie Graz as well as for purchases at supermarkets, pharmacies and farmers’ markets.
The GrazGutschein will be communicated via adverts, posters and city lights, on the radio and increasingly online via adverts, short videos and influencer cooperations in the coming weeks until Christmas. At the entrance gates to Graz, creatively designed poster light extensions will draw attention to the GrazGutschein as an ideal Christmas gift.
There will also be distribution campaigns, a dedicated GrazGutschein photo point on the main square and competitions – including the ‘Memory’ competition on the Holding Graz website, where, with a bit of luck, GrazGutschein vouchers worth 100 euros await.
The sponsoring partners of Holding Graz from the sports and cultural sectors are also involved in the campaign and are drawing attention to the GrazGutscheine with various formats and activities until 24 December.
