Kli­maT­ick­et Steier­mark re­places “Jahreskarte Graz”

Existing Annual Passes Graz (“Jahreskarte Graz”) whose validity extends beyond 1 March 2023 will automatically be upgraded to KlimaTicket Steiermark Classic Graz as of 1 March 2023 until the end of the validity period.

Unlimited travel by public transport throughout Styria? For owners of an “Annual Pass Graz” (“Jahreskarte Graz”) this will be possible from 1 March. From this day on, the “Jahreskarte Graz” will automatically become the KlimaTicket Steiermark Classic Graz.

The background:

The KlimaTicket Steiermark will become cheaper from March onwards thanks to higher subsidies from the federal government. For the KlimaTicket Steiermark Classic Graz (which, like the “Jahreskarte Graz”, is only available for people with their main residence in Graz), which is also subsidised by the City of Graz, this means a substantial price reduction from 480 euros to 368 euros.

Existing Annual Passes Graz whose validity extends beyond 1 March 2023 will automatically be upgraded to KlimaTicket Steiermark Classic Graz as of 1 March 2023 until the end of the validity period. In the interest of environmental protection, the ticket will not be exchanged (except for transferable tickets). Customers will be informed of this by letter.

  • Compensation for delays (for trains):With a KlimaTicket Styria, you are entitled to compensation if trains on the routes you travel do not reach a certain level of punctuality per month.
  • People carrying a KlimaTicket Steiermark Classic Graz can take a second person for free in zone 101 (Graz) on the streetcar, bus and train. This offer is also valid on the night bus lines, but only in zone 101! The promotion runs from November 2021 until March 31, 2022 and is valid from Monday to Saturday from 6:30 p.m. and on Sundays and public holidays all day until the end of operation.

FAQs on the Cli­mateT­ick­et Styr­ia as of March 2023

Gen­er­al

  • The ClimateTicket Styria is the provincial version of the ClimateTicket Austria. It allows unlimited use of all trains (S-Bahn, long-distance), buses and trams in the area of the Styrian transport association at a fixed price. The ticket is generally non-transferable and valid for twelve months. The full-price version (Classic) will also be available as a transferable ticket.

    The City of Graz offers a subsidy on the KlimaTicket Styria to persons with their main residence in Graz. There are therefore further variants:

  • In the entire network area (incl. Schloßbergbahn in Graz) and in the fare extension areas, with the exception of the fare extension area to Vienna.

  • Yes. The KlimaTicket Styria can be purchased up to 30 days in advance.

  • Yes. From 1 March 2023, the half-yearly and annual tickets, the subsidised annual ticket Graz and the study ticket for 4 months will be discontinued. The tariffs for hourly, 24-hour, weekly or monthly tickets will not change.

  • Yes. From 1 March 2023, the P+R Combi Ticket in the half-year variant will be discontinued. The tariffs for 24-hour, weekly or monthly tickets will not change. Holders of a KlimaTicket Styria (or Austria) will have the opportunity to purchase an annual parking ticket at the Mobility and Sales Centre at Jakoministraße 1 from 1 March 2023.

  • Yes. Employers can provide the KlimaTicket to employees tax-free or reimburse the corresponding costs tax-free. For further information, please refer to the website of the competent Federal Ministry of Finance.

  • Yes, this is possible. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].

  • No.

  • Yes, if you have a KlimaTicket Styria sponsored by the city of Graz. This regulation also applies to holders of a KlimaTicket Austria, provided that their main residence is in Graz.

  • The KlimaTicket Styria can be paid for once or in twelve monthly instalments (without surcharge).

  • No documents are required when purchasing the Transferable ticket. A photo is required for all personal tickets. If you want to buy a reduced ticket, please bring proof of age (e.g. driving licence) or, in the case of the purchase of the Special variant, the disabled person’s passport or the severely disabled person’s ID.

    In the event of a check, the KlimaTicket Steiermark Youth, Senior or Special is only valid in conjunction with an official photo ID (e.g. driving licence, e-card with photo, passport, disability passport).

  • Yes, the same cancellation modalities apply as for the KlimaTicket Austria, i.e. from the 7th month of validity at the earliest. The fare is refunded minus the months already used and minus the fare refund fee. With the KlimaTicket Steiermark, running months are only counted as full months from the 8th day. The fare refund fee amounts to one twelfth of the ticket price.

  • These tickets are only available at the mobility and sales centre of Holding Graz. Prerequisite is the main residence in Graz. For the purchase you need the funding application (currently still in progress) for the KlimaTicket Steiermark Graz.

  • KlimaTickets Styria for Graz residents can only be paid for on site at the Mobility and Sales Centre. Payment is possible in cash, by debit or credit card. Direct debit and payment by instalments are not possible.

  • When purchasing a ticket subsidised by the City of Graz, the subsidy application (currently still in progress) is required.  In case of a check, the KlimaTicket Steiermark Youth, Senior or Special is only valid in combination with an official photo ID (e.g. driving licence, e-card with photo, passport, disability passport).

  • No. Due to the funding guidelines, these KlimaTickets cannot be cancelled.

  • No. The Grazer SozialCard Mobilität remains valid only for trams and city buses with one and two-digit line numbers in zone 101 and costs 50 euros. If you also want to use the Schloßbergbahn, the card costs 60 euros. The Graz Social Card Mobility is available upon presentation of the Social Card at the Mobility and Distribution Centre, Jakoministraße 1.

Ex­ist­ing Half and An­nu­al Pass­es, An­nu­al Pass­es Graz and Kli­maT­ick­ets

  • Existing half-year tickets expire at the end of their period of validity. They are valid for the zone printed on them (no conversion into a KlimaTicket Styria). As of 1 March 2023, half-year tickets will no longer be offered.

  • From 1 March 2023, existing non-transferable Verbund annual season tickets for a tariff zone will automatically be upgraded to a KlimaTicket Styria for the remaining term. Customers will be contacted in good time before the introduction of the new tariffs and informed about the changeover.

    In the case of a one-off payment or if all instalments have already been paid, the overpaid purchase price of the annual travel pass will be refunded. In the case of payment by instalments, the remaining instalments will be adjusted. The refund will be made after returning the enclosed contact form to the specified account.

  • Existing transferable half-year tickets expire at the end of their period of validity. They are valid for the zone printed on them (no conversion into a KlimaTicket Styria). As of 1 March 2023, half-year tickets will no longer be offered.

    In the case of transferable annual tickets, there will be no automatic conversion to a KlimaTicket Styria. Customers will be contacted in good time before the introduction of the new tariffs and informed about the options. From 1 March 2023, no more transferable annual season tickets will be offered.

  • All customers who already have a KlimaTicket Steiermark will be contacted in good time before the introduction of the new tariffs and informed about the repayment of the price difference or the adjustment of the instalments for the remaining term from 1 March 2023.

    In the case of one-off payment or if all instalments have already been paid, the excess purchase price of the KlimaTicket Steiermark will be refunded. In the case of payment by instalments, the remaining instalments will be adjusted. The refund will be made after returning the enclosed contact form to the specified account by 30 June 2023.

  • Existing Annual Passes Graz whose validity extends beyond 1 March 2023 will automatically be upgraded to the KlimaTicket Steiermark Classic Graz as of 1 March 2023 until the end of the validity period. The ticket will not be exchanged in the interest of environmental protection. The geographical area of validity will be extended to the area of the Styrian Transport Association.

  • Annual travel pass Graz holders who are either under 26 years of age or over 65 years of age as of 1 March 2023, or who have at least a 70% degree of disability, are given the option of a soft cancellation on an annual twelfths basis when purchasing a new KlimaTicket Steiermark Youth/Senior/Special Graz.

    The calculation is based on one twelfth of the ticket price. Current months are not counted as full months until the 8th day of validity. The fare refund fee of 10 euros will not be charged. This special regulation is valid until 31.12.2023.

  • Holders of a KlimaTicket Steiermark Youth/Senior/Special who have their main residence in Graz are given the option of a soft cancellation on an annual twelfths basis when purchasing a new KlimaTicket Steiermark Youth/Senior/Special.
