Sharing a car instead of owning one: This is the concept that the city’s car sharing service ‘tim’ (täglich.intelligent.mobil) has been focussing on for eight years now. The first tim location was opened on Hasnerplatz in 2016, the most recent at the Lumis student residence on Schönaugürtel.
There are now 13 large (so-called tim nodes) and 16 smaller locations in Graz with around 90 cars, around half of which are e-cars. In addition, there are attractive combined offers for tim customers to Styrian excursion destinations such as the Schöckl, the Lipizzaner stud farm in Piber and the Zotter Erlebniswelt. tim, which is centrally operated by Holding Graz, is now also an export hit beyond the city limits of Graz in other Styrian and Austrian cities and municipalities. There are 15 tim locations in the Graz area, from Feldkirchen, Gratwein-Straßengel and Lieboch to Laßnitzhöhe. (Note: 15 locations in 13 municipalities with 18 cars and 10 cargo bikes)
The intensified communication over the past year, for example via the two top Graz clubs Sturm and GAK, who present tim on their football shirts, among other things, has brought a real boom to the car sharing service. The number of tim customers rose by around 30 per cent during the 2023/24 football season! For the first time, the number of members broke the 6,700 mark. Holding Graz also set an all-time record in June 2024 with more than 4,100 bookings – never before have tim cars been booked so often in such a short space of time.
Tip: holders of a Climate Ticket Styria/Austria are automatically in the ‘tim-Club’ and do not have to pay a membership fee. There is also no registration fee.
Facts and figures about tim:
The tim logo on the player shirts of SK Sturm Graz and GAK (for the first time in the 2023/24 season) not only increased tim’s brand awareness, but also massively increased the number of users:
For Deputy Mayor and Transport Officer Judith Schwentner, the positive figures confirm the path taken towards car sharing as an alternative to owning a car: ‘With the city’s tim car sharing service, we can offer Graz residents an environmentally friendly mobility service that allows them to travel flexibly and inexpensively in and outside of Graz even without their own car. Car sharing relieves the burden on public space in the long term, creating more space for people, green spaces and trees. More than 6,500 people in Graz have already switched to tim. I am delighted that we are also increasingly addressing a young target group with new locations such as at Graz University of Technology or the student residence on Schönaugürtel.’
The tim car sharing service is also a real showcase project for Holding Graz CEO Wolfgang Malik and Holding Graz board member Mark Perz: ‘With tim, Holding Graz operates one of the leading car sharing services in Austria, which we have successfully expanded in terms of locations, fleet and users in recent years. To make the switch and utilisation as attractive as possible, all holders of a climate ticket are automatically in the ‘tim Club’ and do not have to pay a membership fee. There is also no registration fee.’
